The Integrated Family Support HUB (IFS HUB) Program works to support outcomes of family and children’s wellbeing by providing information, enabling early identification of issues, providing holistic responses for families and enhancing referral pathways to services in the Mackay region.

Play, Care, Talk & Listen, Read & Count, Encourage

The Integrated Family Support HUB Program promotes the importance of positive care for children as well as supporting parents with information and helpful tips to support their child’s development in the early years.

The Rockin Kids Program runs 1 day a week during the school term and is an early intervention program that provides children with the opportunity to participate in hands on activities that assists children with developing skills and sharing positive play experiences.

The Program assists parents to extend the range of ways they can relate to their children through interactive play and builds their capacity to use these positive play experiences in the home. Opportunities are given to build supportive networks around families and enhance the parents and children’s social connectedness while improving child development outcomes.

Workshop with Naturopath Jody Walker

Jody Walker delivers fun interactive workshops during the school term for parents to learn about healthy eating for children

Nutrition, hygiene and parenting are promoted and modelled through Playgroups however; research shows that Children’s behaviour can be linked to diet.  Unfortunately for families, marketing and labelling of foods can be extremely confusing for families to understand what is healthy and what just appears to be healthy.

The workshop is delivered by a qualified naturopath and covers a number of different topics in the 1 day training such as:

  • Food and children’s behaviour
  • Healthy eating for families
  • Tips on buying seasonal produce
  • Dealing with picky eaters
  • Understanding and reading food labels
  • Simple and easy recipes in the home
  • Other information on child related health matters.

Through the year, the intergrated Family Support Hub Program will run a number of different information sessions and workshops based around the needs of Parents/Families in the community at the time.

The program works with the Mackay Child Friendly Community Action Group (MCFCAG) , a group of local community and government representatives dedicated to building a safer and friendlier environment in our community for children and their families.

“Child protection is Everyone’s business.  The responsibility lies with the adults in keeping children safe from harm.  All members of society need to play a part in ensuring children are nurtured and safe.  ”
